OOM kills DNF during sudo dnf upgrade -y on OCI Free Oracle Linux 8.7

Summary:

OOM kills DNF during sudo dnf upgrade -y on OCI Free Oracle Linux 8.7

Content (required):

I have an OCI Free with Oracle Linux 8.7 (image was 8.6) that used to work fine and does automatic upgrade with dnf. Since a few months the automatic dnf upgrade but also manual attempts with sudo dnf upgrade -y are killed by OOM. After some investigation I found that DNF has a need for a lot of memory, so I found a suggestion to use microdnf. This only works after I rebooted the image.

But something else has caught my attention. My image says it should have 1 GB of RAM, but when I do free -m on the bash prompt I only see 680MB. Why do I have less RAM than I should have?

Howdy, Stranger!
