OCI: RPM Rebuild Fails With Error "warning: waiting for transaction lock on /var/lib/rpm/.rpm.lock"

Symptoms:

Rebuilding RPMDB gets this error:

# rpm --rebuilddb 
warning: waiting for transaction lock on /var/lib/rpm/.rpm.lock

Changes:

Customer tries to run precheck upgrade on DBAAS instance from OCI Web Console.

Cause:

Due to abrupt crash of upgrade from OCI workflow, this error occurs, when rpm update gets crashed or incorrectly aborted on an earlier installation there will be a lock file on the RPMDB in /var/lib/rpm/.

Solution:

  • Check whether any yum or rpm related processes are still running on the system.
