Picklist Option Value exchange - what are the impacts

Hi,

I have a question regarding the changes on Option Value field in picklist for Campaign Type.

I would like to exchange the current values in this field with new one but I want all campaign to be automatically update with new type name. As far as I can test it, it won't work the way I need. After I change the value, the campaign has empty field: Campaign Type. I need to re-assign it manually.

Do you have any idea how to go through such problem? Should I use API to exchange the values in database? Any suggestions here?
