Value Set from table - limit the column length

I am attempting to setup a DFF on a task with a custom value set.

How do I limit the column length of a value set column which is validated against a table using sql?

When i embed the sql, the column length is derived to 150, but that makes the user interface 150 characters long which is unecessary. I am sure there's a simple way I am overlooking.
