Why updating the hire date in the past is removing some of the user assigned roles?

Hi,

We noticed that when we do an update of the hire date: ex: put a date more in the past, some of the user assigned roles are removed.

Is this standard system behavior?

Can you please explain which roles are removed? As not all of the roles are removed, just some. How can we identify which ones are removed, so we can put/assign them back to the user.
