Is there a way we can automate changing of assignment status

Summary:

Here is our requirement:

​We need to put employees who are on Garden Leave on Inactive-Payroll Eligible status during the time before termination.

Maybe we can have new Reason under Leave of absence (in Change Assignment), that could default the status to Inactive - Payroll Eligible?

After the termination date this status should automatically be changed to Inactive - No Payroll.

Is this possible?
