Is it possible to add an existing employee as a contact during a New Hire process?

When a hire an employee/contigent worker using my client groups - add a contingent worker/Hire a Person. We also add the contact to the Employee.
The client wants to know if we can add an existing employee as a contact in the Contact section during New Hire process?
I checked the personalization and found no option to do that. Is it possible to run a duplicate check for contacts just like we do for Employees using first name/last name/DOB ?
