Is it Possible to Fetch Total FTE For Multiple Assignment Scenario?

Summary:

I am looking to find a way for users to easily identify an employee's total working hours across all assignments (multiple assignments and total FTE), rather than individually looking at the hours on each assignment. My initial thought would be to add a new flex field titled 'Total Working Hours' and attach it to a Fast Formula that calculates the employee's total hours across all active assignments. Is this even a feasible thought?

If this is possible, is there a specific process that needs to be consistently ran in order to maintain the correct hours?

If this isn't a capability, has anyone been successful in getting that (or similar) information displayed easily?
