Position synchronization action not allowing change to previous action

Summary: We have an new hire who was supposed to start 8/26. We need to change her start date to 8/28. For some reason, she has a 'synchronization from position' on 8/26. But when I click into the details, it doesn't look like anything has actually changed...

One would assume that the manager was changed/updated. But when I look at the original record, the manager is the same. It won't let us change the start date, until we delete the record following the hire. But the only records following the hire are the synch records, which can't be deleted.

This is the second one we have had had with issues regarding the synchronization from position action. Is there a work around we can we use so that we can update these employees/new hires to reflect correctly?
