Is it possible to leave the "Global Person Name Language" field empty?

We have some employees who have the Global Person Name Language set to Spanish, even though the enterprise Global Person Name Language is set to US. As a result, we're facing some errors when trying to move them to HR. Is it possible to leave the "Global Person Name Language" field empty on the "Manage Enterprise HCM Information" page? If we leave that field empty, can it affect any transactions or configurations in the system?
