How to restrict user to approve its own approval request

The requirement is → User submitted one request and it has multi-level approval. But user is also part of one approval in the whole cycle. I have used the feature 'Prohibit self-approval by users named in these payload attributes' and added the required payload attribute. But it is not working and user is able to receive the approval notification for self-approval. Can anyone suggest to overcome this situation?
