Zoom In Bottom Level Freezes Excel

In our relationship dimension, we have approximately 7518 members. They are currently organized into rollups by the year they were active (for older now inactive members) and by name for the new active members. However, whenever a user tries to zoom in to the bottom level, even with suppressions on, it freezes excel.

What are some best practices to improve performance in a dimension with a large number of members? My current plan is to consolidate all the old data into one "legacy vendor" and remove all the old vendor members.
