Emails not appearing for all employees and ex-employees in candidate profiles

We have noticed when looking into candidate profiles of both employees and ex-employees that the email address appears to be missing for some of them. They appear in their HR record.

This makes it impossible, when they apply to an internal position (for employees), to get notifications, offers, etc. Why would this occur?
