UK FPS - Person names with accented characters

edited Apr 24, 2025 8:22AM in Payroll and Global Payroll Interface (GPI) 4 comments

Summary:

HMRC's spec for the FPS only allows letters A-Za-z, spaces, dashes and apostrophes within people's names. But obviously some people's names will have accents. Is there any workaround?

Content (please ensure you mask any confidential information):

The FPS person name fields only accept: A-Z, a-z, space or -'

This is a problem if people's names actually include accented characters, like: Seán José Frédéric Anaïs Jürgen Sören Müller Björn
The HR side seems to allow such names to be input, which is fine, but when UK payroll runs, the FPS will fail unless you edit away those accented characters.

Howdy, Stranger!
