Employee Assignment Status was updated but after position sync ran it reverted back to the old value

Our department that manages leave of absences, moves employees into and out of an Assignment Status = LOA. Sometimes their change to the assignment status is reverted back to the old value once Position Synchronization runs. Is there a way to avoid/fix this?

For the shown example the person's status was changed from LOA to an Active status using "Change Assignment". They entered the change on 5/6/2025 with an effective date of 5/6/2025. On 5/11/2025 Synchronization from Position ran, which changed the status back to LOA.
