Payroll Activity Center - where do the values come from?

The front page of the Payroll Activity Center shows various headline figures for each payroll. Is there an explanation of exactly where those figures are coming from?

The Payroll Activity Center shows the number of calculations, payments, payslips, and accounting for each payroll in the period. Where are these figures being pulled from? Presumably they are the totals from specific types of flow that have run, but can we have an explanation so that we can cross-reference and prove they are what we would expect?

The issue really is that as these per-period figures are presented without any method of seeing more detail, then if the figures are not what we would expect, we need some way of reconciling back to the source in order to explain it.
