Can you end date a UDT record with out a new effective start date auto populating

Summary: We currently use UDTs to drive aspects of our Incentive process. We have an entry of the table we are no longer using to drive a value, however we do not want to delete it so we can maintain the history and possible future use. When I attempted to add an end date to the record via HSDL, a new start date auto populated as soon as the process completed. Is it possible to enter an end date and not have a new date populate?

The only alternative I can currently think of is to zero out all values connected with this entry so they do not affect the correct values,
