Clarification on Email Engagement Tracking in Eloqua

Hello!

Using an email security solution that scans incoming emails—such as Proofpoint, Mimecast, or Microsoft Defender—can result in auto-opens or auto-clicks being recorded as engagement in Eloqua, even though these are not actual human interactions.

  1. Could you please confirm whether Eloqua is able to distinguish between genuine human engagement and automated interactions triggered by email security scans when building segments or analyzing campaign performance?
  2. Are there any best practices for eliminating the contact's automated interactions for example when building a segment in Eloqua?
