Use case for Account Custom Data Object

I'm wondering if any user in the community has any use cases of implementing account custom data objects for their ELQ automation that they don't mind sharing. I've been implementing only contact CDO and am having a hard time understanding the difference in terms of use case between contact and account CDOs.
I've actually tried to play around with an account CDO by selecting "Companies" under the Entity Type and an Account ID field to map it with. In this CDO, I also have an example record linked with a specific contact through its email address. However, when I ran a segment using the "Has Linked Account in Custom Object" criterion, I'd expect the segment to return all the contacts linked with that account, but it returned zero records instead.
