Use of dummy salesperson to derive accounting in Financials

In E-Business Suite, there is a quite common workaround / shortcut to achieve some auto-accounting segment derivation using the sales person field on various transaction, where this was used to only to derive accounting, not to actually calculate sales credits.
In Fusion, it's a bit more complicated because the sales person needs to exist as a Resource in CX, but it's still possible to do this.
Has anyone done so? How has it worked out?
