can you use transactional item attributes during purchase order creation

Summary:

We are investigating how we can reduce the number of items created for our business.
I was looking into the option of using transactional item attributes during the creation of a requisition or a purchase order.
But purchasing is not among the options in allowing TIAs.
Is there another way of creating less items and using item attributes at the moment of purchasing an item?

e.g. Purchasing a shoe. Having attributes: size, mark, style, width to be completed during PO or RQ.
