Benefits ESS page-Create New Contact-Marital status field is not available to be made visible

In Redwood Benefits self service page, when we click on "Create New Contact" under People to cover - Marital status field is not available to be made visible whereas when we edit the same contact it is visible. Our requirement is to make the "Marital Status" field as available and mandatory at the "Create New contact" only.
