Clarification on Setting Hazard Class and Hazardous Material in Item Master via FBDI

We are currently validating the method of setting the Hazard Class in the Item Master through FBDI, and we've confirmed that Hazard Class can be set via FBDI by entering only the Hazard Class Code, leaving Hazardous Material = NULL.

Q1: Is the HAZARDOUS_MATERIAL_FLAG attribute tied to any functionality or system behavior?
Q2: If Hazardous Material remains NULL while Hazard Class Code is populated (e.g., 1000), is this acceptable both logically and functionally?
