Transactions taking a long time to process in test pods

Summary:

When submitting transactions in a test pod they seem to take a very long time to process, for example for a simple termination I often have to leave it overnight to see whether it completes or errors, I'm sure I've read somewhere recently that it's possible to increase the frequency of polling of transactions to expedite them faster but cannot now find that reference, can anyone shed any light on this?
