Prevent Extensible flexfield from showing both Value and Description

Is it possible to prevent extensible Flexfields from showing both the values and descriptions within the end user drop down list of values?

We are implementing redwood and have noticed extensible flexfields show both properties which results in the information being duplicated on the UI.
