Best practice for validating metadata in EDMCS?

Summary:

Last month, we created an out-of-sync in our FCCS application because we had an alias (trailing spaces) issue in EDM which we loaded to FCCS. We want now to tackle this in EDM (which is meant for metadata management). Is there a best practice to follow to validate the metadata properly in EDMCS, check for duplicates, trailing spaces,…?
