Differences days of cover for safety stock dependent and independent item supply planning

Is there a differences if I put safety stock days of cover for independent and dependent item ? what is the ouput ?

I have safety stocks days of cover for our raw materials, lets say FG1 and component C1. I don't want to stock our FG since all the FG manufactured are coming from sales order, should I input days of cover for RM instead in Product hub ? and set safety stock not planned for the FG item.
