Error validation for Gender on Convert Pending Worker page

We want to implement error validation for the blank Gender field on the "Convert and Edit Pending Worker" page. However, when we attempted this in VBS, the validation message did not appear unless the edit icon was clicked. As a result, users can proceed to the next section even if the Gender field is empty.

Please let us know how to set up this validation.
