Workaround for EDM In Flight Request when submitter is removed from application?

I am looking for confirmation on whether the following scenario is expected behavior and suggested workarounds: A user submitted a request, which progressed through all approval stages except the final one. While awaiting final approval, the user who submitted the request was removed from the application and lost access. Consequently, the final approver encountered an error stating that the property was not editable in the viewpoint, preventing them from approving the request. Is this behavior anticipated? I have found a related idea, which I will upvote, but in the meantime, I would appreciate any advice on how others handle this
