How to prevent Lot from going negative when allow negative balance is allowed

We have a requirement where negative balance is enabled at the organization level. However, during transactions, we do not want items controlled at the lot level to have negative balances, while negative balances should be allowed at the broader level. Is there a parameter, profile option, or system setup that can help us achieve this requirement?
