How often runs the Submission Progression Notification email?

If the Submission Progression Notification is turned on, how often does it notify the recipient per day?

E.g. if multiple candidates are moved to 1st interview step on the same day, does the system send out a notification only once per day about the same status change? Is it possible to configure the frequency of these notifs?
