What will be the impact to the notification and alert if Personal email is set as primary

We have configured all employees personal home email as primary and preferred in the system. We would like to know if MSOutlook integration will work with personal email address. If not then what would be the solution to send the notifications to work email which is secondary email in the system.
In this case, will all notifications and approvals go to their personal email address? Anyone has implemented this scenario?
