How to rename metadata without renaming the artifacts

Summary: We wanted to update our current metadata into a different member name however the artifacts (data forms) were also renamed. How should we rename a metadata member without impacting the artifacts?

For example, our metadata is named as Segment. Then the data forms are using Segment as well and is hardcoded. But when we update Segment to Segment_2026, the hardcoded value in data forms were also updated to Segment_2026. May I know if there is a way to rename a metadata without renaming the artifacts?
