How to automatically generate consumption tax proration entries in multiperiod accounting

Summary:

When using multiperiod accounting for accounts payable, the standard functionality does not allow for consumption tax to be prorated to each accounting period, so we currently create journal entries manually in the general ledger.
I've heard that consumption tax proration journal entries can be generated automatically using subledger accounting, but how do I set this up?
Can you please share any examples of this being used in practice?
