Can we move applications without triggering notifications to candidates?

I'm looking for some advice on how to tidy up some very old requisitions, without triggering any notifications to candidates.

We have discovered that some requisitions have not been correctly maintained and, despite expiring over a year ago, candidates are still sitting at the 'interview and selection - inter view to be scheduled' phase and state. We'd like to tidy this up so that candidates are correctly updated to 'rejected by employer', so that the requisition can then be closed. However, we really don't want irrelevant email notifications going out to candidates about jobs they applied for a long time ago (they were informed of the outcome off-system). Please can someone tell me how to go about doing this?
