VBS - Add Absence validation

I am attempting to add a validation message to the Add Absence page when the "Maternity Leave" absence type is chosen. The message is only appearing when the user selects submit. We would like it to appear immediately when the absence type is selected, is this possible? We have experimented with additional Conditions/Messages but haven't had any success.
