Error message when updating grade ladder on job

Summary:

When attempting to update a job on Oracle to enter a new grade ladder and grade, once I've selected the new grade ladder, when I click add to enter the grade details I'm getting the following error message: You can't select the grades [old grade] because they aren't associated with the grad ladder assigned to this job.

I've tried saving with just selecting the Grade Ladder but not adding the grade and am still getting the same error message.
