Restrict users from entering special characters in VBAFE

We are using VBAFE templates to create projects and tasks in Oracle PPM. There is a requirement to restrict users from entering special characters on a free text field in VBAFE. Is there any way to put a validation on the fields to check for special characters and an error or a pop message appear so that user can correct the data and once corrected then only VBAFE process that record otherwise it should fail?
