Terminate Employment - Parent position removed from direct reports

Summary:

Upon a Terminate Employment for a Manager, some of the reporting positions no longer have a parent position assigned. There were 6 direct reports and out of that 2 of those direct report positions erased the parent position. Any ideas what could cause this?
