Send notifications through notify users

Could you please confirm if the "Notify Users" option under Approval Units is designed to send notifications to users?

We have already enabled Approvals in the application settings (Applications > Settings > Approvals) and configured email addresses under user preferences for email notifications. Despite having users assigned to approval units, they are not receiving any notifications.

Is the "Notify Users" feature functional for sending notifications, or is there another step required to trigger notifications to approvers?
