Point in time period close checklist

Our Finance office would like to have a period close checklist for Oracle Financials that shows at what step the close process is at any time. We have a checklist for in what order to close modules and we have a checklist for each of the modules. The Controller would like to understand at any point in time on exactly what step the close process is on. He would prefer this to be automated. Does anyone have something like this? We have considered using SmartSheet or Google Sheets to create a step-by-step list that the owner of that step checks
