Can we add an item # to a PO created from a Requisition?

Summary: We want to be able to create a PO from the requisition and be able to add the item # (item created in the Item Master) to the PO Line.
Can we do that?
If we can do it, Will the system have an issue if the related requisition line does not have an item ID and the PO line does?
