Case Number generation behavior

Hi,
We have observed unexpected behavior in the automatic generation of case numbers.
Initially, when cases were created, the numbering sequence started as expected (1 to 6). However, after that, the sequence jumped to 1001–1006, and then to 2001–2006.
Could anyone please help us understand why the case numbers are not being generated sequentially?
