Request Position Change: Location doesn't automatically update with Dept Update

Hello,

We are working on an initiative where we need to "read only" our location field. However, we noticed that the location doesn't update automatically when there is a department change. Not all of our departments have the same location and would like for this field to populate based on what is on the department. We are currently not on redwood yet. Is this standard behavior and is there a way to have this field auto populate based on the departments location? Please let me know how this can be achieved.

Position After Department Change: This department has a location of Abercrombie, but as you see the location remains as West Tower.
