What is the use of attachment categories in item class?

Summary:

I was going through the item class configurational setup and under the 'Basic' tab of item class, I came across a portion called as 'Attachment Categories". I searched the oracle docs but couldn't find anything useful to understand the same. I want to know what is the use of this and if possible can you please explain the same with an example?
