Learning Path renewals and completion validity in 26C

In the 26C release notes, redwood specialization management specifies: "Renewals and completion validity: Enable renewals for completed learning paths and set requirements for renewals and validity periods so learners stay current."

We do not have redwood enabled in our production environment yet. Do both self-paced learning and redwood assignment management need to be enabled in order to utilize specialization/learning path renewal and validity features?

This would be very useful for us to enable immediately while we are still transitioning from responsive to redwood pages.
