Recommended Update to Grade Level Progression CIP Configuration based on Electronic Annoucement
On June 29, 2026, ED issued an Electronic Announcement GENERAL-26-42 Update to List of Professional Degree Programs Due to Court Order identifying an interim list of 6-digit CIP codes that the Department will treat as professional degree programs while the court’s preliminary stay remains in effect.
We recommend updating your Grade Level Progression configuration to include the applicable updated professional-degree CIP codes for your institution’s programs until Oracle's baseline configuration can be updated. This configuration helps ensure students in affected programs are evaluated and progressed using the correct professional grade level logic for Title IV processing.
Keeping the configuration aligned with the Department’s updated list is important because the professional degree designation can impact Direct Loan processing, COD reporting, and whether a student may be eligible for the higher professional student loan limits rather than graduate-level limits. If the configuration is not updated, affected students may remain classified under graduate-level progression, which could result in incorrect packaging, COD student level reporting, NSLDS aggregate loan limit evaluation, or downstream manual correction work.
