Abandoned Offers and long tentative start dates

For anyone using the Abandoned Offer feature: Do your recruiters initially set tentative start dates several years out and the pending worker assignment record is created with that Prospective Start Date? If so, how do you handle the fact that the Abandoned Offer functionality references the original start date in ORC, rather than the finalized start date that flows downstream? Are you just waiting years for the abandoned offers to be processed in these cases? We set distant start dates until backgrounds and clearances are done, contracts for those reqs are won/funded, etc.
