PLUS and GPLUS Loans Not Increasing After Disbursement

Summary:

Since beginning disbursement for the Fall 2026 semester, Michigan State is seeing that neither Parent PLUS nor Graduate PLUS loans are able to increase in the fall semester once a disbursement has been made.

Our understanding is that this was perhaps done due to issues schools were having with application loan periods that spanned multiple terms/years. MSU has long controlled for that scenario by having specific loan periods available on the application itself.

What we're seeing as a result of this change is an inability to package expected increases. This scenario is very prevalent this year as we deal with LLE flag issues. Parent loans are being incorrectly limited to $20k and $10k is disbursed for fall. Once we are able to get the correct flag acknowledgement back, the fall remains at $10k and spring increases. Increase requests via the app cannot be honored and the increases to COA/removal of other aid are also impacted.
