How can I add Item dff to Product Management so they become available to add to the search view?

Summary:

I can see my item descriptive flexfields within the item record on the "additional attributes" tab, however they are not appearing as fields within the item index so I cannot bring them in and add them to the search screen. We have some integration related DFFs that the materials team relies on having at the search level without opening each item record.
